공작산
공작산(해발 887m)은 강원도 홍천군 동면에 위치한 산으로, 울창한 산림과 수타계곡의 빼어난 경관으로 인해 산림청과 블랙야크가 선정한 대한민국 100대 명산 중 하나입니다. “한국의 산하” 인기 명산 순위 130위에 이름을 올리기도 했으며, 정상에 오르면 홍천 일대가 한눈에 들어오는 탁 트인 조망이 인상적입니다.
산의 이름은 『한국지명총람』에 따르면, 골짜기 깊고 기암절벽이 겹겹이 솟아 있는 모습이 공작새를 닮아 ‘공작산’이라 불렸다고 전해집니다. 또한 『신증동국여지승람』에는 조선 세조의 왕비 정희왕후의 태를 봉안한 곳이라 기록되어 있습니다.
공작산은 역사적·문화적으로도 매우 중요한 산으로, 다양한 고지도와 지지자료에도 빠짐없이 등장합니다.

공작산 자락에 위치한 천년 고찰. 신라 성덕왕 7년(708년)에 원효대사가 창건했으며, 홍천 9경 중 제6경으로 지정된 명승지입니다.
