소개
가야산(伽倻山)은 대한민국 경상남도 합천군과 경상북도 성주군에 걸쳐 있는 명산으로, 해인사를 품고 있는 불교 성지이자 역사와 자연이 어우러진 관광지이다. 가야산의 이름은 옛 가야국에서 유래하였으며, 산신 전설과 함께 가야 지방을 상징하는 의미를 지니고 있다. 아름다운 산세와 수려한 자연경관 덕분에 국립공원으로 지정되었으며, 사계절 내내 많은 등산객과 관광객이 찾는 명소이다.
역사
가야산은 오랜 역사와 전설이 깃든 산이다. 《동국여지승람》에 따르면, 가야산신은 정견모주(貞見母主)라는 여신으로, 대가야와 금관가야의 시조인 뇌질주일과 뇌질청예를 낳았다고 전해진다. 이러한 전설을 통해 가야산이 고대 가야국의 성산(聖山)이었음을 알 수 있다.
불교와 관련해서도 가야산은 중요한 의미를 갖는다. 특히 신라 시대에 창건된 해인사는 가야산의 대표적인 사찰로, 고려팔만대장경을 보존하고 있는 법보종찰(法寶宗刹)이다. 고려 태조는 해인사를 지원하여 후백제와의 전투에서 승리를 거두었으며, 조선 시대에는 왕실의 보호를 받으며 발전해왔다. 임진왜란과 한국전쟁 등 역사적 사건 속에서도 해인사는 가야산의 영험한 기운 덕분에 많은 문화재를 온전히 보존할 수 있었다.

주변명소
